Andrei Tarkovsky's "Stalker"

"May everything come true. May they believe. May they laugh at their passions. For that which they call passion is not really the energy of the soul, but merely friction between the soul and the outer world. But mostly may they have hope and may they become as helpless as children. For weakness is great and strength is worthless."

Fantastic Planet (1974)

RenĂ© Laloux's 1973 Fantastic Planet is an animated masterpiece. Packed to overflow with psychedelic colors and surreal asides, it disturbs and delights. In telling the story of the Draags, a giant blue semi- amphibious master race, and the Oms, their tiny humanoid pets and pests, Laloux charts the battle that ensues when one of the Oms chances across consciousness. See a predatory world of macabre distraction where certain beings are naturally endowed with superior attributes that they use only to further their hold on the weak, small, and less fortunate — then turn off the television and go see Fantastic Planet.

Kin Dza Dza

To begin, I'd like to say from the start that I'm a major Sci-Fi addict. So this blog will often feature links to my favorite flicks. The first, and I believe most important, is Kin-Dza-Dza, the cult classic you probably missed.

Kin-Dza-Dza is something like an "advanced cyberpunk film". It's a lot about people and social structures which on the planet of "Pluke" of course have many parallels to our society. It's a very funny movie, but it's also a melancholic movie with great philosophical sense.
